"Harbor Scene" Watercolor on paper, 36 1/2" x 30 1/2" framed, 20" x 16" view size
Born in Matthews, IN on Nov. 9, 1902. At age five Faivre moved with his family to Portland, OR where as a teenager he studied at the Portland Art Gallery and privately with Howard Ellis. He moved to Los Angeles in 1923 and worked as a freelance commercial artist and in the late 1920s went north to San Francisco. He first exhibited in 1934 at the Oakland Art Gallery and continued to exhibit throughout the San Francisco Bay area. During the early part of his career his oils and watercolors were representational but later became more abstract. Most of his subject matter was taken from Alameda County. After 1940 Faivre lived in Oakland, CA at 1631 Rosedale Avenue. His storage shed with most of his paintings was burglarized shortly before his death on Nov. 19, 1990 at age 88. He died penniless.
