Aureli was a native of Rome, Italy. He became most famous for his watercolors depicting scenes of courtship and flirtation between Victorian era subjects in formal dress within opulent interiors . Aureli is an extensively listed artist appearing in Mallet, Davenports and Art Price to name a few. The well executed of these compositions, such as this one, have commanded thousands of dollars at auction. In 1999 his watercolor “Idle Hours in the Harem” went for $18,000 at Sotheby’s N.Y. and his pieces have risen to 5 figures in price at auction on many occasions. His pieces have become increasingly rare and highly collected adding to their value on a continuous basis. This piece is in excellent condition and a true masterpiece.
