“Atelier” dated 1913 Oil on Canvas, 21 3/4 “ x 29” unframed
Pirkhert was born in Austria where he spent most of his life and became a highly regarded artist of his time. This magnificent piece dated 1913 depicts the artist’s studio. In an autobiographical manner the young artist speaks to us of his passion. As is illustrated by the nature of the pieces in the studio, Pirkhert was an extremely diversified and highly skilled artist. With equal skill he was able to paint portraits, figurative, landscapes and, of course, interiors. Many of Pirkhert’s figurative depicted nymphs as seen in the far left of the studio, some of which recently have fetched quite a sum at auction. The magnificent skill with which this interior was painted is on par with the greatest European artists of his time. What a treasure to have one piece with all of Pirkhert’s qualities for us to enjoy.
